WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Governor Jim Justice announced a series of significant investments across West Virginia, promising economic growth and job creation in various sectors.
Healthcare Linen Leader to Open Facility in Berkeley County
HandCraft Services, a family-owned leader in medical linen and apparel products, is set to invest $59 million in a new facility in Berkeley County.
This expansion is expected to create 220 new jobs. The project will include the construction of two new plants, with the first set to open in 2025 and the second in 2026.
Governor Justice emphasized the importance of this investment.
“HandCraft Services’ decision to invest in Berkeley County is a testament to the strength and potential of West Virginia as a hub for business and innovation in the healthcare industry,” Justice said.
“This investment will not only create hundreds of good-paying jobs but also strengthen our state’s reputation as a leader in diverse economic development projects.”
Founded in 1970 by John A. Nichols, HandCraft Services has grown into a key player in the healthcare linen industry, processing over 110 million pounds of linen annually.
The company operates 290,000 square feet of high-tech plants and employs over 550 people.
Mitch Carmichael, Secretary of the West Virginia Department of Economic Development, highlighted the broader impact of the investment.
“This project is a significant win for Berkeley County and the entire state. Their commitment to creating high-quality jobs and investing in our communities demonstrates their confidence in our workforce and business environment.”
Sustainable Wood Innovator to Establish Facility in Buckhannon
In another boost to West Virginia’s economy, Prime 6, a leader in sustainable wood products, will establish a new manufacturing facility in Buckhannon.
The $35 million investment will create 75 jobs and contribute to the region’s economic vitality.
“Wood has always been a part of our rich history, shaping our economy and way of life for generations,” said Governor Justice. “Prime 6’s decision to put down roots with their new facility not only carries on that rich tradition but proves we are the best place to be for growing forward-thinking, sustainable businesses.”
Prime 6 is known for its innovative approach to upcycling wood waste into high-quality products for the hospitality industry.
The company’s products are USDA-certified, reflecting their commitment to sustainability.
Secretary Carmichael echoed the governor’s sentiments.
“Their commitment to sustainability and community aligns perfectly with our state’s values, and we look forward to supporting their continued growth and success in Buckhannon.”
Energy Giant Invests in Mason County
Babcock & Wilcox (B&W), a global leader in energy and environmental technologies, has announced a $125 million investment in Mason County.
This project will focus on deploying their pioneering BrightLoop™ low-carbon hydrogen technology, which could position West Virginia as a leader in innovative energy solutions.
“This is a tremendous win for West Virginia, Mason County, and our entire state,” Governor Justice said. “Babcock & Wilcox’s decision to bring their technology and expertise here is a testament to our state’s growing reputation as a hub for innovation and forward-thinking energy solutions.”
The BrightLoop™ technology offers versatile applications, including low-carbon hydrogen production, steam generation, and CO2 capture and storage.
Initially, the project will create 28 high-paying jobs, with the potential for future expansion.
Secretary Carmichael praised the investment.
