MARTINSBURG, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A Martinsburg woman has pleaded guilty to stealing more than $258,000 from her employer through a years-long wire fraud scheme, federal authorities said.
Brittaney Allura Hall, 36, entered a guilty plea Friday to one count of wire fraud, according to U.S. Attorney Matthew L. Harvey.
Court documents state that Hall worked as an office manager and accountant for a Martinsburg business, where she had access to company financial accounts and records.
Investigators determined that she used her position to issue unauthorized payroll overpayments, reimbursements and commissions to herself. She also wrote unauthorized checks and created false invoices to generate payments for her personal benefit.
As part of her plea agreement, Hall agreed to pay $258,143.51 in restitution.
Hall faces a maximum penalty of 20 years in federal prison. A federal district judge will determine her sentence after reviewing the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors.
The case was investigated by the FBI and the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office. Assistant U.S. Attorney Eleanor Hurney is prosecuting the case. U.S. Magistrate Judge Robert W. Trumble presided over the proceedings.
