BECKLEY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The Woodrow Wilson Homecoming Parade has been announced and is set to take place on Wednesday, October 2, 2024.
The proceedings will get underway at 6:30pm, with the parade route itself expected to be closed off to traffic from 6:20pm to 7:30pm on Wednesday, according to the Beckley Police Department.
The parade route will begin at Park Middle School and proceed to Park Avenue, 3rd Avenue, and Neville Street. From there, the parade will continue uptown, making a left onto N. Fayette Street and then onto Prince Street before concluding at Leslie C. Gates Boulevard.
The Beckley Police Department has indicated that area residents should anticipate delays due to the parade event, which is expected to impact the regular flow of traffic. Such considerations should also be kept in mind on Friday when Woodrow Wilson High School will be hosting the school’s Homecoming matchup against Preston.
Prior to the football game, Woodrow Wilson High School, the Beckley Police Department, and Faith Community Church will be hosting the second annual Faith and Blue Tailgate Party. This event will take place from 4:30pm to 6:30pm on Friday, October 4, 2024, at the Woodrow Wilson High School tennis courts.
Features as part of the event will be chips, hot dogs, and drinks which will be made available to attendees at no cost. Corn hole games, balloon sculptures, and face painting will also be available.
“The Faith and Blue event is a nationwide event that facilitates safer and stronger communities by engaging law enforcement officers and local residences through the connections with faith-based organizations,” said the Beckley Police Department. “To this date, there are over 1,140 local, state, and county agencies that participate nationwide.”
Those with questions regarding the event have been encouraged to contact Beckley Police Department Community Services Officer, Sgt. David J. Bailey by email at djbailey@beckleypd.com or by phone at (304) 256-1847.
