PARKERSBURG, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The West Virginia Secondary School Activities Commission (WVSSAC) has announced the hiring of Dan Comer as its new Assistant Executive Director starting in July 2023.
Comer brings over 30 years of experience in education and athletics to the position. He received his Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education and Safety from West Liberty State College as well as a Master’s degree and Educational Certificate from West Virginia University.
Most recently, Comer served for 38 years in Berkeley County Schools as a teacher, coach, and administrator at both the school and county levels.
As athletic director at Spring Mills High School, he led the school’s sports programs during its founding years. He also spent his last two years as the county coordinator for Health, Safety and Athletics.
During his long career, Comer earned numerous honors for his work as a coach and athletic director. This includes being named WVSSAC and WVSACA Coach of the Year multiple times in the 1990s and 2000s. In 2022, he was awarded the NIAAA Award of Merit.
And just this year, he was named the WVADA Athletic Director of the Year for 2023.
As Assistant Executive Director, he will support the administration of high school sports programs and activities across the state.
