PINEVILLE, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A Wyoming County man is charged with arson after a neighbor refused to let him borrow his truck.
According to court documents, deputies were dispatched to Lum Hollow Road for a domestic complaint. Deputies noticed a male walking down a driveway with a dog. The man advice that his name was Kenna Smith, and he had been arguing with his brother. When they arrived back at the residence, they notice the home beside the complaints had thick heavy smoke coming from the front door. When they went to check it out, they saw a fire inside.
During the course of the evening, another male walked up and advised that he was the complainant and that Mr. Smith came over to his house to borrow his truck, and he told him no. He then said Mr. Smith returned, demanding he give him the keys or give him a jump for his vehicle. Mr. Smith grabbed him by his shirt and twisted it to choke him. Mr. Smith’s wife came into the living room and shoved Mr. Smith out the door.
Smith was placed under arrested and transported to the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Department for processing. After the fire department put the fire out, deputies noticed that spray paint was on the ceiling and that there were various chemicals not the floor around the fire, including paint thinner. Deputies noticed burn patterns, which appeared to be following pour patterns all around the floor with chemicals, with the fire being intentionally set.
Smith is charged with domestic battery and first-degree arson. He is currently in Southern Regional Jail under a 5,000 dollar bond.
