LEWISBURG, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Following through on earlier comments and defying conventional political wisdom, the state’s unconventional Republican Governor, Jim Justice has filed a grievance against the Greenbrier County Board of Education.
Former U.S. Attorney Mike Carey confirmed to WVMetroNews Monday that the paperwork has been filed.
The former U.S. Attorney is Justice’s personal lawyer.
The move will attempt to gain the Governor his second basketball head coaching job at Greenbrier East High School. He is already in the unique position for a Governor as coach of the GEHS girls. He wants to coach the boys, which he did up until 2017.
Seeking to return as boys coach has caused controversy with local parents and players lining up on opposite sides of the issue. The school board, placed in the awkward position of having to decide whether to give Justice the second job, divided 2-3 against the hire.
The Governor has not been pleased with that action.
A Level One grievance would go to the chief school administrator, in this case, Superintendent Jeff Bryant. He has been a supporter of Justice and has a second job as entertainment director at The Greenbrier Resort, owned by Justice’s family.
An appeal could go to mediation or it could go on to an administrative law judge. The move after that is to Kanawha Circuit Court.
