It was announced today that legendary singer/songwriter Bob Dylan will hit the road this fall for his Rough and Rowdy Ways Tour, of which the first run of shows will commence November 2nd in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and culminate with a December 2nd show in Washington DC.
The tour will launch in support of the 2020 album Rough and Rowdy Ways, which was released to widespread praise from critics and fans alike.
Dylan’s November 13th stop at the Charleston Municipal Auditorium will mark the Nobel Prize recipient’s first show in the mountain state since his 2016 performance at the Clay Center.
The nearly-two years between Dylan’s most recent concert, a December 8th, 2019 performance in Washington DC, and the first stop on his upcoming tour, represent the folk icon’s lengthiest hiatus from the road since 1984 when he returned to touring following a three-year absence from the stage.
The songwriter, who turned 80 this year, had scheduled dates for 2020 in the US and Japan, but these performances were cancelled due to safety concerns surrounding the Covid-19 pandemic.
Enthusiasts are categorizing the upcoming dates as part of what, since 1988, has been affectionately referred to as the Never Ending Tour, an epithet frequently used to describe Dylan’s seemingly interminable touring schedule. Dylan himself has been dismissive of the designation, though its popularity among fans has persisted over the decades.
Although the official announcement includes only American dates with the final show announced to take place in December of 2021, the trek is billed as a worldwide tour intended to conclude in 2024. As such, additional shows are expected to be announced at a later date.
Tickets for the Rough and Rowdy Ways Tour go on sale Friday, October 1st, 2021. More tour information is available at https://www.bobdylan.com/on-tour/.
