Pippas Passes, Ky. – Will Philpot’s stickback with under 10 seconds to play lifted Alice Lloyd College to a 64-62 upset win over No. 23 WVU Tech Thursday.
The Golden Bears took a 10-point lead on a jam from Thomas Hailey with 8:16 to play in the game, but could not close the Eagles out down the stretch.
After chipping away at the lead, Philpott drilled a 3-pointer as the clock ticked under one-minute to play for a 62-60 lead.
Gunner Short tied the game for Tech on the next possession before Philpott hit the biggest bucket of the contest for Alice Lloyd.
WVU Tech had the final possession for the tie, but could not score the equalizer in the final seconds.
The loss for the Golden Bears (17-3) snaps their 14-game winning streak and drops them to 8-1 in River States Conference play.
Alice Lloyd raised its overall record to 18-0 and 9-0 in conference play.
WVU Tech is back in action next Thursday when it travels to Indiana University-Kokomo.
