MINGO COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The Mingo County Commission assembled Sunday afternoon for an emergency session at which a State of Emergency declaration was made in response to a number of outages throughout the area.
The declaration comes after powerful storms swept the area over the weekend causing substantial outages in both water and electrical systems. The prominent outages have even affected shutdowns of pump stations in affected areas.
“In an emergency session held on June 19, 2022, the Mingo County Commission declared a state of emergency in Mingo County,” read a statement from the county commission. “Please be aware that the Mingo County Office of Emergency Services (OES) is working around the clock to assist with both power and water outages. Also be aware that the Mingo County Public Service District (PSD) is working to restore water to affected areas as quickly as possible.”
While utilities have been restored in many areas, some residents remain without power, reporting days-long outages with no end in sight.
Emergency services are currently working to restore utilities in residential and commercial areas, with efforts being made to restore pump stations to full functionality.
“OES and PSD management and personnel are in the process of acquiring and installing backup generators so that the pump stations will resume service as soon as possible,”
The State of Emergency declaration is said to be in effect until further notice, with no subsequent updates having yet been provided at this time.
