BLUEFIELD, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A man has been charged with the sexual assault of a 16-year-old girl in a residence housing over a dozen male migrant workers.
According to reports from the Bluefield Police Department, on Tuesday, February 28, 2023, Sgt. D.R. Barker of the Bluefield Police Department contacted Det. Lt. K.L. Adams of the Bluefield Police Department regarding a call he had received concerning an alleged sexual assault incident which had occurred at a Franklin Street residence in Bluefield.
It was advised by Sgt. Barker that the victim was a Spanish-speaking female and that multiple males who only spoke Spanish resided at the location with the alleged victim.
Responding to the scene, Lt. Adams contacted Jose Gonzalez, a Spanish-speaking associate of the Bluefield Police Department who agreed to translate. Lt. Adams found the residence to be housing over a dozen male migrant workers.
The alleged victim stated that she had been raped by a male subject by the name of Mario – later identified as Mario Rodolfo – within the residence. Gonzalez facilitated an interaction between Lt. Adams, Sgt. Barker, the alleged victim, and Rodolfo in an upstairs area.
The subject reportedly stated that “he was drunk and he didn’t mean it,” to which the victim stated it had happened too many times and that she was tired of it. The subject then told the victim to shut up and get out of the room.
CPS was contacted by Lt. Adams at this point, and it was revealed that the victim had no family in the home and had only been there a short time. Rodolfo was detained and transported to the Bluefield Police Department for questioning.
The subject advised that he had come from North Carolina about two weeks ago to do construction work, stating that the victim had already been at the residence and had lived there for six or seven years. He also denied having sex with the victim and denied saying many of the things he was overheard saying by Lt. Adams and Jose Gonzalez at the residence.
Lt. Adams, along with CPS worker Matt Collins, then interviewed the victim at the Police Station. The victim advised she had been in Chicago, Illinois after arriving from Guatemala, and that she was in Chicago for 6-7 months before being sent to North Carolina.
This is where the victim stated she met Rodolfo about a month before coming to Bluefield, WV. She also stated that the only family she had in the United States was a cousin in Atlanta, Georgia.
The victim stated that on the evening of Tuesday, February 28, 2023, Rodolfo had come into her room and raped her once more. She stated that she had told him to stop and had told her family over the phone about what had transpired. This is reportedly when police were contacted. The victim was then transported to Bluefield Regional Medical Center to be examined.
A second interview with Mario was conducted by Lt. Adams regarding the allegations, at which time the subject admitted to having slept with the victim multiple times in North Carolina but did state that she had called him to be with her. Though the subject denied having sex with the girl in Bluefield, he was advised that he would be charged in the case.
DNA samples were obtained from both parties involved and Rodolfo’s underwear were seized to be tested for DNA. Assistant Prosecuting Attorney David Peifer was contacted by Lt. Adams who explained the circumstances of the case. It was determined at this time that Mario Rodolfo would be charged with Second Degree Sexual Assault.
