He was a veteran of the U. S. Army having served in Korea. He was a coal miner for more than thirty-five years, retiring from Consol. He loved his family above all, bluegrass music and making everyone laugh.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Bertha Christine Curtis Basham; siblings, Cindy Frady, Sue Haynes, Ella Jane Elledge, Thelma Peck, Cleveland Basham, Carl Basham, Bernie Basham and Paul Basham.
Survivors include two children, Channing Basham and wife Christy of Princeton and Tammy Mullins and husband Michael of Cumming, Georgia; three grandchildren, Zoie Mullins, Channing Basham and Madelyn Hurt; four sisters, Bernice Mullens of Princeton, Nancy Piercy, Reva Shrader and Phyllis Shrader all of North Carolina and special sister-in-law, Peggy Gaus and husband Randy of Michigan.
A memorial service will at 12:00 p.m. Saturday, May 22, 2021 at Bailey-Kirk Funeral Home where military honors will be conducted by the Mercer County Veterans Honor Guard. Honoring his wishes, the body will be cremated.
