PETERSBURG, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The Beckley Composite Squadron of the esteemed Civil Air Patrol (CAP) recently organized a thrilling event exclusively for cadets.
On 9/16/2023 WV Wing hosted an unforgettable day of glider flights at the Grant County Airport in picturesque Petersburg, West Virginia. The event, specifically designed for CAP cadets, aimed to provide them with a unique opportunity to experience the exhilaration of glider flights while also fostering their interest in aviation. A total of nine cadets from the Beckley Composite Squadron participated, accompanied by two additional cadets who assisted with ground crew duties.
Cadet Airman Jessie Curcio who participated with the ground team for the first time stated: “Working on the ground team was a remarkable experience. I never thought i’d ever have the experience of being responsible for the safety of my fellow cadets. I learned so much about the basics of flight”. Under the expert guidance of skilled pilots, the cadets embarked on their glider flights, soaring through the skies and gaining a firsthand understanding of the principles of flight. This hands-on experience allowed them to witness the beauty of West Virginia’s landscape from a whole new perspective. Throughout the event, safety remained the top priority. The pilots and ground crew diligently ensured that all necessary precautions were taken, allowing the cadets to enjoy their flights with confidence and peace of mind.
The Beckley Composite Squadron extends its heartfelt appreciation to Grant County Airport, W.V Wing, and the U.S. Air-force for their invaluable support and cooperation in making this event a success. Their assistance in providing a safe and conducive environment for the cadets was truly commendable. By organizing events like these, the Beckley Composite Squadron aims to inspire and motivate cadets to pursue their passion for aviation.
