BECKLEY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The Beckley Concert Association will be closing out its 2023-24 season this Sunday, April 14, with a Barney Fife-impersonating comedian and a musical performance by The Cleverlys at the Woodrow Wilson High School Auditorium.
First, Nashville-based comedian Rik Roberts will entertain concert-goers at 2:30 p.m., as he greets visitors in his Barney Fife character. Then, Robert’s will take the stage at 3 p.m., with his family-friendly stand-up comedy.
As a married man and father of two young kids, Roberts has said there are enough real-life situations that we can all laugh at without going “below the belt.”
Laughs will continue at 4 p.m., as The Cleverlys bring their one-of-a-kind comedy and musical experience to the WWHS stage.
“If Dolly Parton, Earl Scruggs, and Spinal Tap spawned a litter of puppies, it would be The Cleverlys,” said the New York Times.
Listeners can expect a high-quality musical performance as The Cleverlys put their own bluegrass spin on popular songs. Fan favorites include “Walk Like an Egyptian,” “Milkshake,” and Beyoncé’s “Irreplaceable.”
From the group’s humble beginnings in the Ozark Mountains to currently headlining festivals and performing arts centers all over the country—even performing regularly on the coveted Grand Ole Opry stage—one thing is for certain, there is no other show like this out there. The Cleverlys have been called “a master class of comedic timing, showmanship, and world class musicianship.”
“The group has evolved over the years and the comedy and musicality is the best it’s ever been. Our show is now on the top shelf,” said Digger Cleverly, also known as Dr. Digger. He, his nephews Ricky Lloyd, DVD, Haggis, and his youngest brother, Wasper, form The Cleverlys.
The Spring show is at the Woodrow Wilson High School Auditorium, 400 Stanaford Road, Beckley, and tickets are included with a Beckley Concert Association season membership or are $30 at the door.
Doors open at 2 p.m. As always, young children and students in kindergarten through 12th grade and accompanied by a paying adult are admitted free. Admission is also free for college students with school ID.
