BECKLEY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A Beckley woman is facing charges after allegedly shooting a gun during a domestic dispute.
According to Beckley Police, on August 7, 2021, police were dispatched to Woodlawn Avenue for a shots fired complaint. When police arrived, they observed two people standing outside. The suspect, Paula Matney, told police that two of them had been arguing, but no weapons were involved. When questioned about a firearm, the suspect told police, “I don’t own a gun.”
After a search warrant was obtained, police searched the home and found a HI Point JCP. 45 ACP under the defendant’s mattress. Paula Matney then admitted to discharging the firearm one time out the front window. Police determined that she shot the gun in the area of five victims who reside in the home.
Matney was charged with five counts of wanton endangerment, domestic assault, and discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling.
She is currently in Southern Regional Jail under a 50,000 dollar bond.
