(Teays Valley, WV) The Bloomingdale Baptist Varsity Boys’ basketball team (1-1) lost their first road game of the season to Teays Valley Christian (4-1) Monday night 81-65. Despite being the underdog in the matchup, “the Bloom” played neck and neck with the Lions for most of the game, even taking a 2-point lead into the 4th quarter. During that final quarter, however, the Lions started a zone press and ran up the score to seal the victory.
Bloomingdale Senior Sutton Roten, who led the team with 17 points and 13 rebounds, credited their rebounding and team chemistry for keeping them in the game for 3 quarters. “First I’d like to give God the glory. Win or lose, he is still worthy! I feel like we did a great job of boxing out and most definitely the chemistry that we have created over the past year helped a lot. We just got in too much of a rush. Props to Teays Valley for never giving up. That’s a tough team.”
The Lions were led by Maki Cary’s (Jr., G) dominate 44-point scoring performance– 19 of which came in the 4th quarter. Eli Pendleton (Jr., F) also contributed 15 points.
Dorian Reese (Jr., G) finished with 16 points, 12 rebounds, and 7 assists. Solomon Backus (Sr., F) also knocked down 4 threes and finished with 16 points and 7 rebounds.
The Lions will take a short drive to Hurricane to take on Calvary Baptist Academy (1-0) on Friday night at 7:00. The Bloom will be back home tonight to take on the Elk Valley Christian Eagles (3-1) at 7:30. All Bloom games are livestreamed on their Facebook page.
