CHARLESTON, W.V. (LOOTPRESS) – On Monday, August 2, 2021, Mayor Amy Shuler Goodwin, with approval from Charleston City Council, named a new member to the Kanawha-Charleston Health Department Board of Directors. Danita Nellhaus will begin serving on the board directly.
According to the City of Charleston, Nellhaus has been a Kanawha County School nurse for nearly 20 years. During her career as a nurse, she served on the Kanawha County Wellness Team, which helps develop nutritional and physical activity standards for county schools.
Nellhaus is a member of the West Virginia Association of School Nurses, where she served as both President and Vice President. She is also a member of the National Association of School Nurses.
“Danita Nellhaus has worked with thousands of students in her time as a school nurse and can bring valuable insight and best practices in working with our young people to keep them healthy and safe,” said Mayor Goodwin. “I believe she will bring unique skillsets to the Board of Directors and will help guide the Kanawha-Charleston Health Department in working with our youth during this pandemic.”
Nellhaus shared her excitement for this new endeavor.
“I am thrilled to serve on the Board of Directors for the Kanawha-Charleston Health Department and hope to bring my knowledge of the healthcare field and experience working with young people to improve current services,” she said.
Nellhaus has lived in Charleston with her family for 21 years. Together, Nellhaus, her husband, her children and their spouses remain active in their community through work, school or community service.
