ATHENS, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Concord University’s Main Theatre was reopened on Tuesday during a ribbon-cutting ceremony commemorating the completion of the first phase of planned renovations.
The event saw appearances from Vice President for Advancement Sarah Turner, CU Foundation Board member Dr. Jerry Beasley, Alumni Association representative Janet Conroy, and Concord University President Dr. Kendra Boggess, along with members of the Chamber of Commerce of the Two Virginias.
“We have more to accomplish,” Dr. Boggess said during Tuesday’s ceremony, alluding to plans which are already in place for Phase II of the renovations which will reportedly include lighting, technical and stage support, and new seating for the black box theatre area.
The newly renovated Main Theatre section can accommodate nearly 800 patrons, and additionally features upgrades such as a new carpet, new curtain, new seats, and new technology.
Those in attendance were also treated to a special video message from James and Elizabeth Jessee, Concord alumni both of whom made signification contributions for the university’s theatre renovations.
“We applaud the fantastic work of Concord University and look forward to their upcoming theatrical productions and shows,” said the Chamber of Commerce of the Two Virginias.
