BECKLEY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A proposed lease for Fruits of Labor in Downtown Beckley was once again a topic of discussion in the most recent meeting of the City of Beckley’s Common Council on Tuesday.
Following discussions regarding city reappointments, the recent Primary Election results, and other agenda items, council members were asked about any remaining comments regarding “Old Business.”
Councilman At-Large Cody Reedy posed the question of whether city officials had received any update on the status of a proposed lease for the Fruits of Labor location in Downtown Beckley. Reedy has sought transparency with regard to the organization for some time now, recently having spearheaded a City Council Workshop for the development of a lease agreement for the use of the downtown property in use by the organization.
“The last we heard, Tammy Jordan had presented our lease to her outside attorney firm,” said Mayor Rappold with regard to the query.”
Councilman Robert Dunlap made a motion that members of council be circulated a copy of the lease in question but was advised that no motion was necessary and that a copy could be made available to members of council who wished to receive one.
Fruits of Labor and the affiliate Seed Sowers organization have been at the center of concern in recent months by members of the public and some members of city council due to the lack of a lease agreement for the downtown Fruits of Labor location, among other things.
