CHARLOTTE, NC (LOOTPRESS) – At the beginning of the season, the Mountaineers were predicted to finish 14th in the Big 12, fast forward to tonight, they finish the season 9-4 with a bowl victory.
Both West Virginia University (WVU) and the University of North Carolina (UNC) entered the Duke’s Mayo Bowl with an 8-4 regular season record.
WVU led the entire game, with the first play being a touchdown within 11 seconds.
The final score at Bank of America Stadium was 30-10. The Mountaineers finish the season 9-4 while the Tar Heels finish 8-5.
WVU was picked as a slight favorite ahead of tonight’s contest.
West Virginia was without key players Zach Frazier and CJ Donaldson Jr.
Tonight’s game was the third-ever meeting between WVU and UNC, with the last meeting resulting in a 31-30 Mountaineer victory in the 2008 Meineke Bowl.
42,925 fans were in attendance during tonight’s game.
Following tonight’s victory, John Denver’s “Take Me Home, Country Roads” could be heard playing within the stadium as a predominant WVU crowd could be heard proudly singing along.
Head Coach Neal Brown was also doused in Duke’s Mayo following the game.
