CHARLESTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The Charleston Convention and Visitors Bureau is seeking volunteers to serve as course marshals during the upcoming USA Cycling Pro Road National Championships, scheduled for June 16–21.
Organizers say working as a course marshal is one of the best ways to experience the event, placing volunteers directly along the race route as cyclists compete.
In addition to getting a close-up view of the action, volunteers will play a key role in maintaining safety for both riders and spectators.
Course marshals will be stationed at designated points along the course and will be responsible for directing riders, assisting with road closures, monitoring safety conditions, and managing pedestrian and vehicle traffic.
Volunteers will also help ensure spectators, pets, and other potential hazards remain off the course while races are in progress.
The event will feature daytime time trials and road races, as well as an evening criterium race.
Organizers have also added flexibility to the volunteer program, allowing participants to select preferred shifts and locations, or to be assigned where help is most needed.
All volunteers will receive a meal, water, a whistle, and a USA Cycling-branded shirt. Training will be provided online in advance of the event.
Organizers note that all shifts will take place outdoors and recommend volunteers bring items such as lawn chairs, extra water, and sun protection.
This year’s volunteer program is sponsored by West Virginia American Water.
