Ona – Greenbrier East sophomore standout Neena McClintic finished second Saturday night at the Cabell Midland Cross Country Festival. The highly competitive field included five of the top-10 ranked teams in the Mountain State.
McClintic was within eight seconds of the No. 2 ranked runner and race winner, Ella Hardin from Hurricane.
The Spartans ran strong as a team with six runners finishing inside the top-50 Saturday night including Jillian Styles (20), Kate Adkins (23), Maddie Lilly (34), Luella Mansheim (35) and Noelle McClintic (48).
Bella Holly (39) Leila Holly (41) and Jordan Floyd (50) from Oak Hill High School also finished in the top-50.
Greenbrier East had three top-50 racers in the boys competition led by upstart Jackson Carter (32), along with Robby White (38) and Grayson Adams (42).
Summers County hoops standout Avery Lilly (32) led the local girls field in the Class AA/A race, followed by Bre Crouse (39) from Shady Spring and state champion high jumper Adrienne Truman (40) from Nicholas County.
Madison Angus (44) from Nicholas and Raelyn Carr (45) from Shady were also among the top-50 runners.
Tyler Huffman (13) led the top area finishers in the Class AA/A boys event. Huffman was followed by Nicholas County teammates Johnny Walkup (15) and Luke Barr (19) inside the top-20.
Shady Spring placed three runners in the top-40 including Logan Malott (24), Ethan Dowdy (27) and Eli Jordan (40).
