FAYETTEVILLE, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Members of the Fayette County Commission assembled on Wednesday for their regular session meeting which saw discussion of several agenda items including broadband application consideration for the Fayette County area.
The ongoing project, facilitated in conjunction with GigReady, is currently in negotiations for implementation of the project’s second phase which would serve roughly 1500 addresses throughout the geographical scope of about 122 miles.
The proposed construction period would be about two years, with the project reportedly estimated to come to $10,886,352.29 in costs. This phase of the project, as stated during Wednesday’s session, would accommodate a vast majority of Fayette County.
A microfund commitment from the county in the amount of $4 million will reportedly also go into the project, the application for which was presented for approval from the Fayette County Commission during this week’s meeting.
County commissioners were hesitant to move forward immediately with the proposition as presented, however, and some of the figures conveyed in the presentation led to questions for which it was ultimately determined that further discussion regarding the issue would be required.
“I wondered where the figures came from,” said Commissioner Allison Taylor on Wednesday of the project specifics. “Just because we’ve allocated a certain amount for broadband in general doesn’t mean we want to allocate the bulk of it for the first phase of the project.”
As such, a decision for the Region 4 request for Fayette County GigReady Round 2 Broadband Application consideration saw postponement on Wednesday, with the issue set to be revisited by commission members during a meeting to be held at a later date.
