FAYETTEVILLE, W.V. (LOOTPRESS) – Much to its surprise, the Town of Fayetteville recently uncovered documents in the archives at West Virginia University (WVU) that showed the town was incorporated in 1872, not 1883 like originally believed. This means that the town turns 150 years old this year- a milestone worthy of celebration.
However, Fayetteville needs help.
Town officials are inviting everyone- both past and present Fayetteville families- to participate in the upcoming anniversary. Individuals are asked to share old photos of Fayetteville businesses, churches and homes, families and past celebrations, etc. They are also encouraged to share memories of who owned what businesses and buildings and where they were located if no longer standing.
All gathered information will be compiled into booklets, which will be made available to the public.
The Town of Fayetteville asks that photos and stories be submitted before June 1, 2022. All information can be sent to the Mayor’s Office at 125 N. Court Street in Fayetteville.
