BEAVER, WV (LOOTPRESS) – On Sunday, November 21, 2021, first responders had the privilege of meeting the victim of the MVC on Ritter Drive from November 13.
Dean Leftwich was driving a U-Haul rental truck when the vehicle left the roadway for undetermined reasons striking a tree.
Leftwich was found unresponsive by a passerby. Ron Beatty, a medical professional, was one passerby who stopped to assist at the MVC.
Beatty recognized that Leftwich needed immediate assistance and, with the help of other bystanders, was able to remove him from the crashed vehicle. That is when Beatty began CPR and protected the victim’s airway until first responders arrived on the scene.
Chief Jason Redden and FF Jose Rivera of the Beaver VFD, assisted by Chief Zach Honaker (Coal City VFD), who are National Registered Emergency Medical Technicians, began providing care to Leftwich. FF TJ Maxey (Coal City VFD) also assisted at the scene.
Efforts to resuscitate Leftwich were successful. He was taken to Beckley Appalachian Regional Hospital by crews from Jan-Care Ambulance, where he was treated and later released.
Today we celebrate the recovery of Dean Leftwich and the first responders who came to his aid. First responders gathered with his family at the Beaver Volunteer Fire Department to meet Leftwich and his family.
Thanks to the efforts of Mr. Beatty initially at the scene allowed the continued efforts of first responders to have a positive outcome for Dean Leftwich.
The Beaver VFD would like to thank Mr. Beatty for his assistance and recognize Chief Jason Redden, FF Jose Rivera, Chief Zach Honaker, and FF TJ Maxey for responding and putting their skills and training to work to aid Mr. Leftwich in his time of need resulting in his recovery and return home to his family and friends.
