LAVISTA, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A GoFundMe campaign is ongoing for a local fire chief who lost his home in the tornado that struck Fayette County on April 2nd.
Tommy Coleman, a resident of Lavista and Chief of the Nuttall Volunteer Fire Department (VFD) lost his home and belongings in the April 2nd EF2 tornado that ripped through his neighborhood.
Instead of tending to what was left of his home, Tommy was out assisting others in the community who needed help that evening.
Rick Lewis, Deputy Chief of the Nuttall VFD, has been leading the recovery efforts in Lavista.
When Governor Justice and other state officials visited the area on Monday, Lewis told a heartwarming story about Coleman.
Lewis told those in attendance that many have been bringing in food to families and that Tommy decided to take food given to him out to the line workers and those clearing debris as they were working around the clock late into the night.
Lewis said despite Tommy’s immense loss, he has still been looking out for his community before himself.
The GoFundMe campaign for Tommy is still active and donations may be made by clicking here.
All funds raised will be given to Tommy Coleman and his family.
