CHARLESTON, W.V. (LOOTPRESS) – On Monday, Gov. Jim Justice issued a proclamation, ordering all United States and West Virginia flags at the Capitol Complex and all state-owned facilities in Wood County be flown at half-staff on Tuesday, Dec. 29 in honor of former West Virginia Delegate Gene A. Haynes.
Delegate Haynes, a Parkersburg native, served three terms in the West Virginia House of Delegates after being elected in 1970.
He was elected to delegate to the Republican National Committee for multiple presidential nominating conventions and served as a member of the Parkersburg City Council in 1956.
Delegate Haynes was active in his community and served numerous roles at the Parkersburg YMCA, including Physical Director, General Secretary, and Co-Chair of the Building Committee.
He was also a life-long member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, where he taught bible class and volunteer in youth programs.
According to Gov. Justice’s proclamation, Delegate Hayes dies on Dec. 19, 2020.
