(LOOTPRESS) – The choice of JD Vance as his running mate by former President Donald Trump has resulted in a significant increase in sales of “Hillbilly Elegy,” Vance’s best-selling memoir published in 2016.
A HarperCollins spokesperson informed The Associated Press that since Trump’s announcement on July 15, over 650,000 copies have been sold, including physical copies, audiobooks, and e-books.
“Our team is printing hundreds of thousands of copies to meet the demand from our retail partners,” the publisher stated on Thursday. Before Trump selected him for the Republican ticket, Vance’s book had already sold more than 3 million copies.
“Hillbilly Elegy,” which was adapted into a feature film by Ron Howard in 2020, recounts Vance’s upbringing in Ohio and his family’s heritage in rural Kentucky.
Following Trump’s surprising victory in 2016, the book was frequently referenced as crucial reading for those opposing Trump, seeking to comprehend his allure among working-class whites, despite some critics arguing that it offers a limited and misleading view of Appalachia and poverty in the United States.
