GHENT, WV (LOOTPRESS) – UPDATE: The West Virginia State Police has confirmed multiple fatalities following a crash involving multiple vehicles at the Ghent toll booth.
According to the West Virginia State Police (WVSP), on Monday, March 11, 2024, at approximately 2 PM hours, a vehicle traveling northbound on Interstate 77 struck three vehicles stopped in the toll lane of Barrier A northbound at Ghent causing significant damage and resulting in a fire.
This crash incident is being investigated and reconstructed by West Virginia State Police Troop 7 and a West Virginia State Police Crash Reconstruction Team.
At the time of this submission, there are multiple confirmed fatalities and Troop 7 is in the process of locating and notifying next of kin.
The WVSP says that more information will be disseminated as it becomes available.

UPDATE:Â A vehicle crash in the northbound lanes of the West Virginia Turnpike at the Ghent Toll Plaza on Monday, March 11, 2024, has traffic slowed this afternoon.
The accident occurred about 2:20 p.m.
Multiple vehicles were involved in the accident and the crash caused a fire.
One northbound lane is open to traffic as of 4:00 p.m.
Ghent Volunteer Fire Department, Beaver Volunteer Fire Department, State Police Troop 7, and West Virginia Parkways Authority crews are on scene.

According to West Virginia 511, the northbound lanes of I-77 are currently closed due to a vehicle accident and mile marker 30.
The accident is reported to have occurred near the Ghent toll booth, according to the WV511 map.
