FAYETTE COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Anthony Ciliberti, Jr., Prosecuting Attorney, announces that on August 19, 2021, Timothy R. Maichle, age 53, of Ansted, was convicted of one count of attempted second-degree murder, one count of malicious assault, and one count of third offense domestic battery, all felony crimes, following a two-day jury trial before Judge Paul M. Blake, Jr. Maichle will be sentenced on October 4, 2021 at 10:30 a.m.
He faces one to three years for attempted second-degree murder, two to ten years for malicious assault, and one to five years for third offense domestic battery. The State informed the Court following the jury’s verdict that it intends to seek repeat offender enhancements at Maichle’s sentencing as Maichle had been previously convicted of felony domestic battery in 2016, and convicted of misdemeanor domestic battery in 2011 and in 1997.
On September 9, 2020, police responded to the Hawk’s Nest State Park overlook in the Ansted area following a report of a female, later identified as the defendant’s wife, who had been struck by a vehicle. The investigation revealed that the defendant and his wife, Amanda Maichle, had been arguing while traveling on Route 60 in a car driven by the defendant. The investigation further revealed that the defendant slowed down and acted as though he was going to let his spouse out of the vehicle. As Amanda Maichle prepared to exit the car, the defendant quickly accelerated and pushed Amanda Maichle out of the car while it was traveling at approximately 35 m.p.h. As a result, Amanda Maichle suffered severe head trauma, including multiple skull fractures, two broken legs, and other serious injuries from being pushed from the vehicle by the defendant and then being run over by the car.
These crimes were investigated by the Fayette County Sheriff’s Department Detective Bureau. Support services for the victim were provided by the Women’s Resource Center. The case was prosecuted by Prosecuting Attorney Anthony Ciliberti, Jr.
