CHARLESTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV), a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, revealed today that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) will be allocating $19,881,651 to five Head Start programs in West Virginia.
These programs aim to foster educational growth, emotional development, and family well-being for children from birth to age 5, ensuring they receive early learning opportunities and a safe environment.
In a statement, Senator Manchin emphasized the importance of equal access to quality education for all children in West Virginia, regardless of their background or geographical location.
He lauded the positive impact of the Head Start initiative, which equips children with the necessary skills and foundation for a promising future. Senator Manchin expressed his satisfaction with HHS’s decision to invest almost $20 million in supporting the crucial efforts of these five programs across the Mountain State.
As a longstanding advocate of Head Start and a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, he pledged to continue championing funding to bolster educational opportunities for all children in West Virginia.
The individual grant amounts for each program are as follows:
- North Central West Virginia Community Action Association: $7,942,940
- Northern Panhandle Head Start: $7,622,492
- Upshur Human Resources: $2,065,371
- Greenbrier County Board of Education: $1,329,982
- Monroe County Board of Education: $920,866
