POINT PLEASANT, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A 29-year-old man was sentenced to prison on First Degree Murder charges Monday in Mason County Circuit Court.
According of the Office of the Prosecuting Attorney for Mason County, 29-year-old James R. Hatfield of Gallipolis Ferry was sentenced for his conviction of “Murder in the First Degree.”
Ultimately approved by the court was a binding plea agreement previously entered between the Defendant and the State which bound the court.
In accordance with the Plea Agreement, Hatfield was sentenced to “life in prison with mercy.” Due to the “mercy” clause, Hatfield will serve life in prison, but will receive consideration by the West Virginia Parole Board after a minimum of 15 years in prison.
Prosecutor Gaskins offered his thanks Sgt. J.N. Lee and Dep. C. Connor of the Mason County Sheriff’s Office, “for their swift and thorough investigation, which ultimately brought this Defendant to justice.”
