MCDOWELL COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – McDowell County Schools has announced that they will dismiss early on the day of the solar eclipse.
A total solar eclipse is set to occur in the United States on Monday, April 8th.
West Virginia is not in the path of totality but will see a partial eclipse with the maximum view occurring on Mon, Apr 8, 2024, at 3:15 pm.
The following dismissal schedule for Monday, April 8, has been provided by McDowell County Schools:
- Bradshaw, laeger, River View and Sandy River – 11:30 AM
- Southside K-8 12:00PMMount View High School (6-12) 11:15 AM
- Fall River, Kimball, and Welch Elem 12:30 PM
- No CTC for RVHS / MVHS will have AM CTC Only
Students will be provided a pair of special glasses to view the eclipse with parental supervision and permission.
McDowell County Schools has decided to dismiss early as the eclipse is set to occur at the end of the school day when most children would be on the bus or walking home unattended from the bus stop.
