CHARLESTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – As temperatures are expected to climb above 90 degrees in some parts of West Virginia comes the risk of potential severe weather for Thursday.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS), a Heat Advisory is in effect for northeast KY, and portions of southeast OH and western WV.
Temperatures in the 90s and dewpoints in the lower 70s will produce Heat Index values exceeding 100 degrees from 2 PM through 8 PM this evening.
In addition, there is a Marginal Risk for severe thunderstorms across most parts of WV and southeast OH this afternoon and evening.
Strong to severe storms are expected to develop ahead of a cold front this afternoon and evening with the severe threat diminishing after sunset.
Isolated severe storms will be possible with the main threats being damaging winds and heavy downpours.
The NWS recommends that individuals stay weather aware, have a plan to take shelter, and have multiple ways to receive warnings.
