CHARLESTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Scattered to numerous severe storms are expected to develop ahead of a cold front Monday afternoon and evening.
The National Weather Service (NWS) in Charleston says The first round of storms is projected to cross in the early to mid-afternoon hours, then additional activity moves through from late afternoon into the evening.
Severe storms will be capable of producing damaging winds, large hail, and tornadoes. Heavy rainfall could also result in localized flash flooding.
The NWS says that people need to stay weather aware & have multiple ways to receive warnings and have a severe weather plan and be ready to put it into action.
The eastern part of West Virginia is currently under a moderate risk for severe weather (Level 4 out of 5) which means widespread severe weather with several tornadoes and/or numerous severe thunderstorms is likely, some of which should be intense.
The western part of West Virginia is currently under an enhanced risk for severe weather (Level 3 out of 5) which means an area of greater severe storm coverage with varying levels of intensity.
