HARRISVILLE, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The Ritchie County Sheriff’s Office in coordination with the West Virginia State Police facilitated a DUI checkpoint on Main Street in the Harrisville area on Friday.
The Ritchie County Sheriff’s Office reports the checkpoint having been set up on Friday, August 25, 2023, with assistance from the WVSP. The RCSO extended gratitude to those who displayed patience throughout the process, during which no intoxicated were identified by authorities.
“While there were no intoxicated drivers caught, we hope that our efforts deterred some individuals from operating a vehicle while impaired,” said the Ritchie County Sheriff’s Office in a statement. “Additionally, the Ritchie County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank all the motorists who went through the checkpoint, for their patience and courtesy while their vehicles were being checked.”
The statement also emphasizes the dangers of impaired driving, pointing out that 70 fatalities reportedly occurred last year alone as a direct result of impaired driving.
“Our objectives for the checkpoints are not to inconvenience our community, but to hopefully make the roadways safer,” the statement continued.
