CHARLES TOWN, WV (LOOTPRESS) – One person is dead and two have been sent to the hospital, including a juvenile, with life-threatening injuries after a crash on U.S. Route 340 Tuesday evening.
According to the Charles Town Police Department, on April 18th, 2023, at approximately 5:44 p.m., officers with the CTPD were dispatched to a motor vehicle crash on US Route 340, just north of the Patrick Henry Way intersection.
Police say a preliminary investigation into this crash indicates a Ford Excursion was traveling southbound on US Route 340 approaching the Patrick Henry Way intersection.
The Ford Excursion abruptly attempted to change lanes and in doing so, struck a Ford Focus, which was stopped in traffic. After striking the Ford Focus, the Ford Excursion struck the trailer portion of a stopped tractor-trailer.
The driver of the Ford Excursion was ejected from the vehicle and flown to an area medical facility for life-threatening injuries. The front-seat passenger of the Ford Excursion was pronounced deceased at the scene.
A juvenile rear passenger in the Ford Excursion was flown to an area medical facility for life-threatening injuries. Neither the driver nor the front seat passenger of the Ford Excursion was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. The driver of the Ford Focus and the tractor-trailer were not injured.
Investigation into this crash continues and more information will be provided as it becomes available. The Charles Town Police Department extended its thanks to members of the community who stopped to render aid at the scene.
The current conditions of those injured are unknown at this time.
