TAMS, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A special unveiling and announcement pertaining to the historic New Salem Baptist Church has been confirmed for next week.
The church, located at a coal camp site in Tams, West Virginia, was nominated by the Preservation Alliance of West Virginia to the National Register of Historic Places.
First constructed in 1921, the New Salem Baptist Church, will be the subject of a special announcement on Wednesday, May 1, 2024, at 11:00am.
In attendance for the ceremony, which will validate the significance of the historic building, will be the oldest living member of the church, 87-year-old Mrs. Queenie Schoolfield.
“In the state of West Virginia, this is only the second time an announcement of this magnitude has been made,” says Beckley City Council member, Sherrie Hunter.
