BECKLEY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Members of the Raleigh County Commission came together on Tuesday for the final Regular Session meeting of the commission for the month of November.
Among the agenda of topics presented for the discussion during the session were multiple grant considerations, including consideration of a grant to the Veterans Cemetery.
A motion for approval of the grant – proposed in the amount of $3,000 – was passed during the session, along with that for approval of a grant pertaining to river cleanup in the Dorothy, WV area.
Specifically, this grant – proposed in the amount of $4,000 – will be utilized in a joint effort with the U.S. Department of Agriculture in efforts toward the clearing of blockage in the Clear Fork River in Dorothy.
Finally, Tuesday’s Regular Session of the Raleigh County Commission saw the approval of a grant application from the county to the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection. This grant, the application for which is due by Friday, December 1, 2023, would go toward the demolition of dilapidated buildings.
A reported 38 structures will fall under the application, including multiple schoolhouse buildings, and the process will reportedly require $554,981.50 in funding.
