HINTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Hinton Railroad Days will be returning for another year to celebrate 150 years of the Chesapeake & Ohio Railway.
The festival will take place from Friday, October 13, to Sunday, October 15 in downtown Hinton. The festival will feature a wide array of food trucks, vendors, music, a kid zone, a car show, and a beer garden.
The Hinton Railroad Museum will also be open during the festival which features a plethora of history on the Chesapeake & Ohio Railway, which Hinton played a major part in.
Another cool thing with this year’s festival is that on Friday and Sunday, one could ride a train directly to Hinton and ride it back home the same day.
The Amtrak Cardinal runs on Sundays, Wednesdays, and Fridays twice a day through the New River Gorge.
The eastbound Cardinal 50 train from Chicago to New York rolls through in the mornings and the westbound Cardinal 51 train from New York to Chicago comes through in the evenings.
A round trip would only be possible by catching the eastbound train in the morning in order to catch the westbound train in the evening.
One could board the eastbound 50 Cardinal train at either Huntington, Charleston, Montgomery, Thurmond, or Prince and ride to Hinton and back on the same day.
The eastbound 50 Cardinal is scheduled to arrive in Hinton at 10:50 AM with the westbound 51 Cardinal arriving at 6:04 PM.
It’s important to note that Amtrak arrival and departure times can vary as delays are common.
There is no set price for Amtrak tickets as prices fluctuate depending on supply and demand. Tickets tend to be cheaper the earlier you purchase. With the exception of Charleston station, tickets must be purchased online.
The private Autumn Colors Express train excursion will not be running this fall.
