MOUNT HOPE, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A road rage incident that led to shots fired near Crossroads Mall has resulted in the arrest of one man.
According to a criminal complaint, on Tuesday, March 26th, 2024, at approximately 12:09 PM, the West Virginia State Police received a complaint through Raleigh County Emergency Operations Center in reference to a shots fired complaint that occurred in the 5500 Block of Robert C. Byrd Drive in Mount Hope.
Raleigh County Emergency Operations Center advised police that a man stated that a male subject identified as Michael Williams driving a Ford Edge was shooting at his vehicle in the roadway.
The male victim followed the vehicle into Mount Hope where the male subject was alleged to have fired another round from a firearm in the vicinity of Tyree Funeral Home.
Police arrived on scene and made contact with the victim who advised that an unknown male subject was shooting at his vehicle while traveling on Robert C. Byrd Drive in the vicinity of the Crossroads Mall.
The victim provided police with what he thought to be the suspect’s license plate number.
Police ran the number and showed the victim the photo of the owner. The victim stated that Michael Williams was the same individual who fired shots at his vehicle.
Police then responded to the registered address of the owner located on Summerlee Road in Oak Hill.
Upon arrival at this residence, police observed a silver in color Ford SUV in the driveway. Police then made contact with Michael Williams.
Williams advised that this incident was the result of a road rage incident in Raleigh County.
Police also recovered a silver in color, SCCY 9mm handgun, which was seized on the scene.
Williams was placed under arrest and transported to the West Virginia State Police Oak Hill Detachment.
While at the Oak Hill Detachment, Williams stated that his wife, daughter, granddaughter a one-year-old juvenile were present in the vehicle at the time of this incident.
Williams stated that he fired one round out of the window of his vehicle up in the air in the vicinity of the Route 19 overpass in Raleigh County.
Williams then stated that he fired one round from the aforementioned firearm while he was in the parking lot of Tyree Funeral Home in Fayette County trying to unload his firearm.
Williams was charged with wanton endangerment and child neglect.
He is currently out on bond.
