ATHENS, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Concord University women’s basketball standouts Abbie Smith and Skylar Davidson have been named to the All-Mountain East Conference (MEC) teams for the 2024-25 season, the league announced Monday.
Smith, a junior forward, earned a spot on the All-MEC First Team for the first time after two consecutive Second Team selections.
Senior guard Davidson secured her first career All-MEC honor, landing on the Second Team.
Smith ranks fourth in the conference in scoring, averaging 17.4 points per game, and third in rebounding with 10.5 boards per game. She led the MEC with 16 double-doubles this season, a mark that also ties for seventh nationally.
Notable performances included a career-high 20 rebounds against UVa-Wise on Nov. 13 and a buzzer-beating jumper to seal a 74-73 win over West Virginia Wesleyan on Jan. 9.
The Little Hocking, Ohio, native also reached the 1,000-point milestone in a game against Saint Leo on Nov. 30.
Davidson, Concord’s second-leading scorer at 11.9 points per game, led the MEC in both assists (5.3) and steals (3.3) per game.
The Mullens, W.Va., native set career highs in points (28 at West Liberty), assists (12 at West Virginia Wesleyan), and steals (seven at Charleston). She also made a game-winning three-pointer with six seconds left to defeat Frostburg State 79-77.
Davidson ranks seventh in program history with 276 assists and fifth with 171 steals.
Fairmont State’s Leslie Huffman was named MEC Player of the Year, while her coach, Stephanie Anderson, earned MEC Coach of the Year honors.
Wheeling’s Kenzie Dalton was named the conference’s inaugural Defensive Player of the Year, and Glenville State’s Nwando Okigbo was selected as MEC Freshman of the Year.
Concord will face Frostburg State in the MEC Tournament quarterfinals Thursday at 8:30 p.m. at WesBanco Arena in Wheeling.
