MERCER COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS)—The Hooked On Life event will be this weekend on May 15th from 11:00 am until 4:00 pm. This event is aimed at raising awareness for suicide prevention.
It is free for the public and features food, painting and fishing activities for children and adults. Tables will also be set up for resources and information about suicide prevention.
The Community Connections and Mercer County Coalition for Healthy Communities are partnered with organizer Savanna Linkous for this event. Fishing gear and other donations were given by local Princeton pawn shops.
“It’s been a really hard year for everybody, so this is just a way to get out and socialize in a safe environment,” said Candace Harless who works for the Coalition.
Linkous wants the community to know that mental health affects everyone and help is available.
“It doesn’t matter who you are or what you do, anybody can be struggling,” said Linkous.
If you know anyone that is struggling, reach out the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-8255 or the Crisis Text Line by texting HOME to 741741.
Any questions about this event can reach 304-800-9505.
