BECKLEY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The LOOTPRESS Pet of the Week is K9 Java!
Java is an eight-year-old Dutch Shepherd who served the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office for over half a decade as an explosive detection specialist. She has also received training in evidence recovery, developing skills to track firearms and shell casings.
K9 Java, along with her handler, Corporal Korey Spears, ensured the safety of hundreds of thousands of Mountain State residents for many years at Fayette County’s annual Bridge Day event. The retirement of K9 Java was announced upon the conclusion of Bridge Day 2022 by Fayette County Sheriff Mike Fridley.
“Today, at the conclusion of Bridge Day 2022, we congratulate K9 Java on her retirement after 6 years of dedicated service to the citizens of Fayette County,” said Sheriff Fridley.
“Java ended her service being partnered with Corporal Korey Spears. Both deputies obtaining certification from the West Virginia Police Canine Association for Explosive Detection. K9 Java and Corporal Spears also have conducted hundreds of public demonstrations throughout Fayette County. They have had the pleasure of representing the Department at many events and meeting thousands of people in the process.”
We would like to thank everyone who made submissions this week, and are excited to congratulate K9 Java, the LOOTPRESS Pet of the Week in association with the Humane Society of Raleigh County!
While we certainly wish we could shine a spotlight on each and every pet for which we receive a submission, submissions and resubmissions are always welcome and encouraged, and can be made through this brief form.
