BECKLEY, W.V. (LOOTPRESS) – Theatre West Virginia (TWV) is now able to offer free classes for the first 50 applicants of its Student Actors Academy 2022 spring session.
Scott Hill, General Manager of TWV, announced the good news, stating that it was made possible through donations given by a group of Raleigh County residents.
“These are people from Raleigh County that are investing in Raleigh County,” Hill stated. “This is not to be confused with charity. This is an investment, and that’s how they want it viewed. They are investing in the youth of southern West Virginia.”
Hill continued, stating no parent should have to worry about financing their child’s way through acting classes.
Now they don’t have to.
The academy will include 12 weeks of courses. This year’s areas of focus are acting classes, vocal classes, dance classes, and even some stage combat classes. Each one-hour class will be held consecutively on Tuesday nights starting February 1, 2022. Normally, classes are $100 and up to $300 for all three.
Classes will begin on February 1 and be held every Tuesday night until April 26, 2022.
In addition to receiving free classes, many of the Theatre West Virginia students from this year’s academy will be asked to participate in the TWV newest production of Danny Boys and Larry Groce’s “Miss Dirt Turtle’s Garden Club,” which will be staged from May 19 until May 29 at Tamarack’s HC Smith Theater in Beckley.
Students can also audition for summer toles at Grandview during the 2022 summer season in “Hatfields and McCoys,” “Rocket Boys the Musical” and “Wizard of Oz.”
The Student Actors Academy will be held at the Paw-Paw Tree Building, located at 715 North Kanawha Street in Beckley. Students from eight to 18 years old are invited to participate.
Those hoping to sign up for one of the scholarships slots are asked to contact Hill at 304-256-6800 or sign up at theatrewestvirginia.org.
