DAVIDSON, NC (LOOTPRESS) – On May 23, 2023, the Davidson Board of Commissioners approved the creation of two social districts in the Town of Davidson based on public input as part of the Town’s Downtown Small Area Plan and the passage of NC General Assembly Session Law 2021-150 in 2021.
The Town of Davidson is pleased to unveil the official launch of two social districts within the town limits: the Davidson Main Street Social District and the Davidson Circles Social District. Operating between the hours of 11:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m., seven days a week, individuals over 21 can buy an alcoholic beverage from licensed establishments (i.e. bars, breweries, restaurants) and consume to-go drinks within a designated common area and within participating businesses. The designated boundaries of both districts will be clearly marked with official signage to ensure compliance and clarity.
“Having social districts in Davidson is a welcomed opportunity to invigorate the economic development of the Town,” said Davidson’s Economic Development Director Kim Fleming. “This is a great way to encourage patronage of local businesses by our residents and visitors.”
Alcoholic beverages must be purchased exclusively from approved/permitted businesses within the Social District and be contained within specially marked cups or cans with the approved logo design.
Local businesses within the social district have the right to opt out by not permitting alcohol brought inside their establishment. Before entering a business with an alcoholic beverage, guests must confirm the marked poster designating approval of open containers.
To learn more about the regulations and guidelines pertaining to the social districts, interested parties are invited to review the 2023-04 Davidson Social Districts Ordinance and the Davidson Social District Operations and Maintenance Plan.
Businesses interested in participating within the Town of Davidson’s social districts can access the required forms including the Social District Permit, Social District Non-Permittee Application, and Social District Waiver on the Town’s official website, www.townofdavidson.org/SocialDistrictsinDavidson
