BARBOUR COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – USDA Rural Development West Virginia has proven itself a steadfast advocate, investor, and partner to communities seeking a brighter future.
Barbour County stands as an example of this dedication.
Over the past three years, the USDA has channeled $21,500 through its Community Facilities Grant Program into the Barbour County Sheriff’s Department, making a substantial impact on the local law enforcement agency.
Chief Deputy Jeff Roy attests to the transformative effect, emphasizing that these seemingly modest investments collectively allowed the department to expand its workforce, directly benefiting the entire county.
“Because the USDA has assisted us with an amount here and an amount there, it’s enabled us to be able to hire another deputy which benefits the whole county and its citizens,” Chief Deputy Roy noted.
In November 2023, the USDA announced its most recent investment – a $7,900 Community Facilities Grant specifically designated for the purchase of body cameras for the Barbour County Sheriff’s Department.
In an era where the significance of law enforcement accountability has come to the forefront, these body cameras serve as a crucial tool for recording vital evidence and ensuring the safety of both citizens and officers.
This recent grant adds to a series of investments, with a $13,600 Community Facilities Grant awarded last year facilitating the acquisition of a new cruiser for the Sheriff’s Department.
Recognizing the importance of dependable and modern law enforcement vehicles, Deputy Chief Roy underscored the role this funding played in maintaining the department’s ability to serve the community effectively.
“If it wasn’t for the USDA stepping up and helping us purchase this equipment, we wouldn’t have it,” Deputy Chief Roy affirmed.
