BUCKHANNON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – One man has been arrested after leading police on 115 MPH pursuit in a stolen vehicle while driving into oncoming traffic under the influence.
According to a press release, on September 3, 2023, Deputies of the Upshur County Sheriffâs Office were made aware of a reported stolen vehicle and wanted person by State Troopers with the WVSP in Lewis County.
While patrolling, deputies located that stolen vehicle and attempted to initiate a traffic stop on Clarksburg Road near US 33 in Buckhannon.
The driver, identified as Shana R. McCoy, 30, of Weston, fled from the deputies in a vehicle onto Liggett Addition Rd at speeds over 75 mph, onto the old west of the road at speeds exceeding 100 miles an hour, and onto US 33 into Lewis County, at speeds over 115 miles an hour, all while driving, recklessly and erratically and into oncoming traffic at times.
McCoy nearly struck multiple police vehicles. McCoy was taken into custody off of old Route 33 in Weston.
McCoy was wanted by WV state parole, for absconding, and was also charged with the felony criminal offenses of fleeing in a vehicle with reckless indifference for the safety of others, and fleeing the vehicle while driving under the influence of controlled substances.
More criminal charges are pending and being investigated by law enforcement agencies in Lewis County.
The Upshur County Sheriffâs Office thanked the West Virginia State Police, Buckhannon PD, and the Lewis County Sheriffâs Office for their assistance in the effort to apprehend this wanted fugitive.
McCoy is currently at Tygart Valley Regional Jail.
