BELINGTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A deputy fire chief has suffered severe injuries after experiencing a medical emergency while responding to an accident.
According to the Belington Volunteer Fire Department (BVFD), Friday evening at approximately 4:48 PM, the BVFD was alerted to assist with a possible vehicle fire on Rt. 48.
Deputy Chief Hart went en route from his residence on Side Street, after turning onto Serpell Avenue it is believed Deputy Chief Hart suffered from some type of medical emergency which left him unconscious.
His vehicle then accelerated off the roadway striking a nearby tree head-on.
Upon arrival, Deputy Chief Hart was found heavily entrapped and was extricated by his fellow firefighters.
He was flown to Ruby Memorial Hospital with severe injuries and is currently in the operating room as of 9:10 PM Friday.
