(LOOTPRESS) – Country music icon and living legend Willie Nelson will be 90 years old in April, but that hasn’t stopped the songwriter from making 2023 one of his most significant years yet.
Following the recent news of Nelson’s nomination for induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Class of 2023, Nelson was given yet another reason to celebrate on Sunday as he emerged victorious on “music’s biggest night.”
The 65th annual Grammy Awards ceremony saw the musician up against contemporary artists with arguably a much firmer grasp on current-day chart and radio circulation for the category of “Best Country Album.”
The Red Headed Stranger took home his 12th Grammy Award Sunday, securing “Best Country Album” over stars such as Luke Combs, Maren Morris, Miranda Lambert, and Ashley McBryde for his 2022 album A Beautiful Time.
Nelson, who picked up an additional Grammy for Best Country Solo Performance, was not in attendance. As such, his award for “Best Country Album” was accepted on his behalf by Shania Twain who presented the nominees.
Ozzy Osbourne had a similarly successful night, notching wins for “Best Rock Album” for his latest release, Patient Number 9 over contenders such as The Black Keys, Elvis Costello & The Imposters, Idles, Spoon, and Machine Gun Kelly. He also won “Best Metal Performance” for the track “Degradation Rules” from the same album featuring former Black Sabbath bandmate Tony Iommi.
Producer Andrew Watt accepted on Osbourne’s behalf, and paid tribute to the album’s late contributors – Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins and guitar legend Jeff Beck.
