JEFFERSON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – One woman has been arrested after crashing into a telephone pole after using heroin and fentanyl, her child was sent to the hospital due to injuries sustained in the crash.
According to a criminal complaint, on August 14, 2023, the defendant, 41-year-old Christine Peters was operating a Ford Escort Sport traveling east on MacCorkle Avenue Southeast in Jefferson in Kanawha County.
Peters then crossed over into the oncoming traffic lane and then hit a telephone pole. In the vehicle was her eight-year-old son. The child was transported to the hospital due to injuries sustained from the crash.
While speaking with Peters, police noticed she had dilated pupils and droopy eyelids. She also had injection track marks on her right forearm.
Peters admitted to using heroin and fentanyl. She also admitted to using the drugs two to three times a week. Police then directed Peters to perform a series of standardized field sobriety tests.
Peters showed signs of impairment. She was then arrested and charged with Child Neglect Resulting in Injury; Child Neglect Creating Risk of Injury. She is currently out on bond.
